For a fourth consecutive year, Adidas and Nebraska Football collaborated on creating an alternate uniform to be worn during a select home game. Adidas did provide a set of mechanicals, but I felt they weren’t quite right for our voice. I had the distinct pleasure of being able to work with a pair of models prior to the release to create some creative assets of our own.
Nebraska has a more “traditional” fan base. We realized, no matter what the alternate uniforms would offer, fans would initially revolt. To help combat the negative comments, we wanted to give fans a reason to express positivity. From our photoshoot, I created two smartphone wallpaper templates and created a workflow to place fans’ faces into the design, putting them in the uniform.
We started with some of our notable fans and former players to help prime the social experiment. This included, but not limited to, former #Huskers in the NFL (Prince Amukamara shown below), Larry the Cable Guy (shown below), University Chancellor and President, Gabrielle Union and husband Dwayne Wade, local media, and many others.
Before officially stating our promotion, I grabbed profile photos of fans posting positive comments about the uniforms and placing them into the wallpapers. Eventually, we let the cat out of the bag, so to speak.
Phone backgrounds? We’ve got plenty. Send us a selfie and we’ll send you a #HuskerBold background. #teamadidas pic.twitter.com/yKdgWsXTDZ

After several hours, we decided to close up shop. I decided to recap the day’s work after tallying my work for the day:
