Collegiate recruiting is a battle field. Protecting your home-turf is often a hard job, especially with other powers in close proximity. Part of Tim Mile’s battle strategy is to show both recent connections and historical greats to recruits homes.
The first major print project as lead designer in the Nebraska Athletic Department, I wanted to get away from “normal” with the 2015-16 Men’s Basketball Schedule Poster. Generally, the Athletic Schedule Posters were 18″ x 24″ printed on a standard paper in four-color with flood gloss coating.
I opted to go with a panoramic size, featuring the faces of the team. Not only did I opt for a one-color piece, but added some shine by using a metallic ink on a matte, bamboo paper with no flood coating at all.
When designing the poster, I had to really focus on the details, curves and levels of the one color. Playing with some halftone bitmapping, I was able to get accurate shading of each player without degrading the quality of the print and keeping the shimmer of the ink.
